Exceptional Family Member Program

Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)

The Navy’s Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) supports military families with special needs. EFMP is a mandatory enrollment program for sponsors with qualifying family members, ensuring families receive the services and resources they need throughout the sponsor’s career.

The program includes identification of special needs, enrollment, assignment coordination, and family support. EFMP works to ensure Sailors are assigned to locations where required medical, educational, and community resources are available.

Special needs may include medical, dental, mental health, developmental, or educational requirements, as well as the need for adaptive equipment, assistive technology, or wheelchair accessibility.
